Bimini up - we now have some shade in the boatyard

Sunday, December 09, 2012

Well so far no more rats (fingers crossed). I was able to get on to the internet early this morning so worked out the details of planes and ferries. Yay! We had some cereal for breakfast and I hate to say it but it was nice and refreshing. I was enjoying the cold milk in the cereal. I don’t think it cooled down much last night and there was nary a breeze except for the fan. I detest sleeping in a pool of my own sweat…

We got the bimini up and attached to the dodger so we now have some shade from the sun. What a difference it makes. It’s hot working in the boat but nicer up top where there’s air movement and shade.
The winds are blowing strong today, we can hear them howling but not much reaches us. We do have air movement but I’d love a little more wind to see if our wind generator works. It looks like we may have to wait until we’re moved into the water though.

Wayne took the control panel apart to see if he could spot corrosion or wire damage. None to be found. When we put the boat to bed in the spring, we couldn’t get the kill switch to work on the engine. We still need to figure out what’s going on there.
After hauling all the stuff out of the back berth to start stashing it under the table we decided that Steph would probably be more comfortable sleeping in the main salon where there’s a fan and more air soooo everything made it back into the back berth. We’ve always used it to stash our tools and spare parts. I was looking forward to having someone use it but didn’t stop to think that it would probably be uncomfortably hot there, especially since it’s next to the engine… It would probably be super in the Great Lakes with colder water and temperatures but here in the tropics it would be very uncomfortable.
I think the temperatures were getting to me today. As I was putting stuff away I started feeling really queasy and tired. I had to lay down for a little to cool off. As the rains kept coming and going I had to keep opening and closing all the hatches and ports but it did cool off a little bit. We went for a little walk down the road to see what we could see. Found a pharmacy but it’s not open today (Sunday). The church on the hill is the one where we keep hearing everyone singing. Yesterday and today – people like to sing here…
Ordered some gaskets for our ports and hatches and it will be great to get them put in. Some of them have been leaking but what the heck they’ve only lasted 25 years… I’d say they were pretty good…
We just finished having some ham, cheese and crackers and I left a titch out to see if we have any more visitors aboard. I don’t know how they’d be able to resist. I think it’s time to call it a day .
