Weather is still looking good so we finished up last minute details – bank, checkout, motor off the dinghy and the dinghy tied down on the cabin top. On our last jaunt into town we stopped at the Quarter Deck for ribs and fish and to see what happened to the man and his dog. He was released from the hospital, then called the restaurant to see what happened to his dog. The folks had lovingly given the dog a flea bath, bought a big bag of dogfood and fed him. They then returned the little guy to his owner but our waiter said he hadn’t seen the man and wasn't sure if he'd been back in yet. He was pretty sure that he WOULD be back though since he was a regular. I was too. If nothing else, this restaurant was a connection to life for him. By the way the ribs & slaw were fantastic! We are leaving this evening (With Azaya and Aurora) at 9:30pm so it’s time to try and catch a nap. I believe the boat is ready, now it's time to fuel up on rest for the crew.
8:45 pm - up and at ‘em. Engines started fine and we released our moorings. It was quite a dark night once we pulled away from the mooring field. It's coming up on a New Moon. We just missed the bridge opening at 9:30pm and circled a bit before heading out. Azaya can't make it under the bridge as their mast is higher than ours. It’s an unbelievably calm night out as far as wind and waves. The velocity of the Gulf Stream is between ½ knot to 1 ½ knots with 1 foot waves. It feels like we’re motoring on a lake at home.
We figure that at 6 knots and 88.5 miles it’ll take us about 15-16 hours to cross to Lucaya. Wayne’s going to take the first watch at midnight then I’ll get the next one so I can catch sunrise. I love sunrise! Both of us were to excited to sleep earlier but at 11:33pm it’s so calm. Guess I’ll try to now.
