What a night. The winds were howling and we were rocking. The water kept slamming the boat and it sounded like things crashing into us. Each time I got up to check the boat there was nothing. It was just the waves showing us Neptune’s fury as the tidal currents and winds collided.
We’re currently under a tornado watch this morning in the harbor until 10am. Winds are blowing from the SW 20-30 gusting to 45. There’s a small craft warning out today from Santee to Edisto including Charleston Harbor until this evening. The wind advisory is in effect until 9pm. 25-35mph gusting to 45 before the strong cold front that’s pushing across the states creating blizzards back in the mid-west. I hope all our friends are safely anchored or in a safe port today – it’s crazy out there. The bridges won’t open when the winds reach 35mph so even if we wanted to leave today – we couldn’t.
I keep watching a little blue boat in the anchorage drift closer to us as we help a four spreader sailboat come into dock. He came between us and the blue boat a few times before I figured out he was trying to dock. Wayne, me and two dockhands helped get him secure at the dock behind us.
Strange day. Strong blowing winds, rain on and off, cross currents and waves slamming the boat creating an oscillating pattern of rocking that was quite unpleasant to load my blog by. The temperature got to the 70s today and this evening as I type this and prepare to retire – it’s still 70 degrees out with a cold front getting ready to slam into us in the next 24 hours or so. We went into town for dinner at the Noisy Oyster for clams and then one more stop at Harris Teeters before returning to the boat for the night. Tomorrow if the weather holds we’ll leave Charleston for an anchorage on the S. Edisto River. Still looking for that sustained warmer weather and sunshine. It’s been so dreary looking the past couple of days.
