Thursday, October 15, 2009 Deltaville Boatyard, Deltaville, VA Raining, mid to lower 50s

Happy Birthday Laura J
Didn’t want to get out of bed this morning at all…  While I had distilled water on board that I left this spring, I knew that the coffee was still in the car. The air in the boat cabin had a bite to it. My cheeks were cold and the air going into the nostrils felt cold so I ducked my head back under the covers and dozed off for another hour hoping Wayne might get up first. No such luck. I laid in the bunk listening to the rain hit the boat then decided hey, it’s after 9:00am I have to get up. So I sent Wayne on a search and seize mission to find the coffee in the car while I searched for our plug in coffee maker to make coffee when we’re in a marina with plug-in power.
We sat in the cabin listening to the rain and watching the rain run down the mast and into the cabin and then into the bilge.

{To do list: caulk the mast, which we never did last year after applying the spartite to the mast.}

When the rain finally let up a bit we hurried into our rain gear and scurried down the ladder to search the car for the coffee and after a successful raid made our way back up the wet ladder and into the cabin soaking things along the way.  Ahhhh coffee never tasted soooo good.  After we had our fill of coffee and zucchini bread (Thank you Elaine for the zucchini) it was time to unload the car between showers and during lighter sprinkles. Wet workday. Larry from Dove stopped by to see who was on our boat. He didn’t recognize Wayne at first (Wayne’s not wearing glasses any more) and wanted to know if he was a friend of the owners.  They’re getting ready to launch their boat around Thursday too if the rain allows the work to get done.  He’d seen guys boxing our boat in with other boats and thought we weren’t returning this year.

Checked into the marina facilities so we could use the laundry, bathhouse, bikes, Internet, lounge, etc… and got a number for shuttle service to the Newport News Airport (highly recommend Ingrid – fairly priced and personable). While Wayne took the car to the airport, I unpacked food, clothing, etc… and started stashing it all. It still looks like a booby trap in here though – I can’t believe it’ll all fit and there’s more stashed under the boat waiting to come up tomorrow.  It was a tiring day.

Called Taylor’s to see if they’d pick us up for dinner tonight. We didn’t feel like walking or bicycling with all the rain. They picked us up and I was so glad to hear them answer the phone. When we drove by last night they were closed and we initially thought they went out of business, and then I remembered they’re closed on Wednesday nights.  Wayne got the clams and I got a 12 oz pork chop with sweet potatoes and peas (yum). The food is still wonderful – I recommend this place – 2 thumbs up! They come pick you up and bring you back and have very decent prices and food.

I can’t believe that my broadband card doesn’t work on the boat. I’ll have to take my computer to the lounge.  This surprises me because I remember using the Internet on the boat last summer when we were here.

I can hear the peepers and croakers outside – I love the sound of the crickets, frogs and night creatures. Maybe the rain will stop tonight.
