Sunday, October 25, 2009 A landmark Birthday today

Well it’s Wayne’s birthday and another workday on the boat.  He had threatened to sleep the day away but decided to get up under the temptation of making him breakfast this morning (eggs and smoky links). After coffee and breakfast he opened up his cards and gifts. He is now officially ready to tackle cold weather on the water! The girls got him thermal wear so he’s good to go for standing watch at the helm during the snowstorms and cold weather this year.
I gave him his first computer – so he now has his own net book. It was difficult sneaking it on to the boat and then keeping my fingers off it but I managed it.

Somehow Laura managed to find Tuskers Beer!!! Amazing!  Another boater came down to tell us that we had a large package in the boat yard office. I came down to fetch it and it said that it contained alcohol. Since it was from California and Laura and Wayne are celebrating big ones this year I thought aha! Champagne! By the time I got back to the boat, the box felt like a ton and I was carrying it on my head like a coolie. It was delightful when Wayne opened it and it was 12 bottles of Tuskers. We both looked at each other and said “Wow”!  Tuskers was the beer/ale of choice when we were in Africa visiting Laura during her time in the Peace Corp. The memories came flooding back & we both had to dig out our Tuskers T-Shirts to wear while toasting a birthday thank you.
We got some work done on the boat - the bimini up and wind generator up. Then called Taylor’s to see if they could pick us up for dinner (the restaurant will pick you up and drop you off).  Had a nice dinner – Wayne got the speckled trout and I got a pineapple/pepper pork chop. Great food once again but I don’t know how they stay in business – it’s never very crowded, at least when we’re here.
